Just Checking In...

Have you been drinking enough water?
    Have you been sleeping okay?
Did you find someone you can talk to?
    Do you need a hug?
Or a blanket and a comfy chair and a cup of your favorite tea?
If your answers look like "no", "no", "maybe... okay, but I didn't talk to them yet because STUFF", "don't touch me unless you already know me to the extent we'd hide bodies together", and "... please yes", then it's safe to say we could be having the same kind of week. Nothing really terrible happened, but all week has felt like physically and mentally fighting through two-year-old molasses to complete anything. Did something happen to increase gravity but scientists aren't allowed to tell the population because officials don't want us to panic?

to buy my books!

I've been told they're good reads.
You also might enjoy them. :)

... I wonder what could happen to increase gravity without the population knowing. Alien device deep in the core of the world? Overall universal gravity reversing without reason so everything starts drifting back toward the single point of origin of all matter and energy? Crossing the point of universal expansion maximum and, rather than reversing, all matter continues hurtling forward but now on a decreasing path typical to a dual, mirror image sine pattern because all our galaxies are just molecules riding a wave frequency? A dark matter star collapsed into an untraceable black hole that somehow affects all solar systems nearest to it, and we're one of them?
Did I mention that I'm easily distracted right now? Concentration and I aren't getting along.
Also, I don't have the astrophysics background for this story, so if an author with the needed science background could write this one up I'd buy it. Yes, I know I'd have to wait a couple years. My taste in reading material isn't going to change much in that short of time. I will buy this story idea as a well written, STEM based novel.
Honestly, my criteria for reading books is "well written". (Or so wonderfully terrible and campy that I can't help but fall in love with rolling my eyes at it... I'm looking at you, Rom Com and predictable Thrillers.) It would be nice to say I've gotten picky about what I feed my eyes now that I'm an author, but I've discovered that being a mom changed my reading style way more than being a working writer. I still want to read everything, but available time and attention for Me Stuff means I choose books that I can easily pick up with the story after days, weeks, or months away; or that I can finish quickly. It took me two and a half years to finish the Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children trilogy by Ransom Riggs, and I loved getting back to it after each forced break apart. I just read book one of Kiranmala and the Kingdom Beyond, The Serpent's Secret by Sayantani Dasgupta, in four days. (Thank goodness for kids in school: Scholastic is publishing this series so I don't have to leave the house for book two, and my kid's class will get the school benefits from the book order!)
You can support programs to improve literacy for teens and adults who struggle with reading, just by buying books!

The good parts of this week were a couple sessions getting a few more queries out, and a bit of writing time every day. I'm totally loving the direction one of my character's is taking in my big story, so the writing time I got with him was really fun to work on. There was also a playdate yesterday for my oldest kid, so this week I got in some talking-to-adults visiting with a few of my favorite moms from school. It even looks like everyone in our house might be healthy just in time to go back to school on Monday. (Because it's apparently not Spring Break without three quarters of the family being sick...)
Oh well. Naught can be done for it. At least Summer is coming! I can't wait to be able to keep the windows open without listening to the furnace lol. Hope you have a great weekend!
